COUNCIL'S REPLY TO PRUNING TREES.

I was so distressed watching the mother squirrel moving her babies, and after reading some of your comments, I wrote to the council.
Here is the reply

Dear Briony

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately we have a large tree stock in Brighton and Hove that needs to be pruned in a relatively small window of time. Due to fresh Elm wounds attracting Elm bark beetles which carry Elm disease, we have to operate in the colder months in order to carry out our duties.

Our contractors Connick Tree Care are aware of their responsibilities and check every tree for birds nests before they prune each tree. Unfortunately we cannot clear trees of all wildlife before we carry out works but we ensure that we do everything that we can to minimise the impact of the tree pruning on the local wildlife.

Kind Regards

Not much help there.
I replied explaining that in Scotland and Wales there is a cut off period for pruning the trees.
Also I wouldn't call May a cold month.
Let's see if we get and answer to that.
I know that we have the last big standing of Elm trees in the country, saved due to the Downs I think, but then they should concentrate on them first in my opinion.

Can't you tell I'm all fired up, lol
